2000 Aurora Award for Best Detached Home

This 5,384 square foot home represents the builder's first spec in an upscale community, where previous homes were large but not historically authentic. The builder sought with this project to raise the community's design standard by creating a home with the character of a well-maintained, original homestead from the 1920s. With its consistent period detailing of roof tiles, textured stucco, stone trim, and wood windows and brackets, this home possesses a warmth and charm unique to the neighborhood.

The traditional, period-scaled front entry was achieved by projecting the foyer, living, and stair features while leaving the major mass of the home recessed behind lush landscaping. Likewise on the interior, the traditionally-sized study, living and dining are appropriately isolated from the contemporary-proportioned master bedroom, kitchen, and family.

The home sold before completion to a delighted buyer who had been seeking a true traditional home with comtemporary amenities.
